WHAT’S WITH THE NAME FIAT?

In economic textbooks, the term ‘fiat currency’ is loosely defined as ‘faith-based currency.’ The U.S. dollar is today a fiat currency, meaning that it has no physical backing such as gold or silver. Critics argue that this is a weakness. Fiat, however, sees this as an example of the importance of trust, and even faith, for economic relationships to exist. When a parent gives a child a dollar for school, it is a vote of confidence and faith. When an individual invests a dollar, they do so because they have faith that the underlying business will succeed. Without some amount of faith in each other, economic relationships both on a large and small scale cannot exist. Trust is the bedrock of the work at Fiat Wealth Management.

A father of three boys and one girl, Matt loves being outdoors and is always moving. He found his purpose in his passion for helping people prepare financially for life's ups and downs after navigating through a personal struggle. When his family lost an important member, a difficult crisis on its own, the extended family looked his way to resolve the financial aspects of the loss. This meant sorting through tax issues, estate issues and making some tough decisions on what to do next. While solving as many of the problems he could, Matt found his “why.” He feels that If he can share his abilities to help other families and individuals avoid those mistakes and the pains associated with those mistakes - that is a big deal

Born and raised in New Jersey, Daniel grew up to be a gifted hockey player. He was fortunate enough to play Division I at the United States Military Academy West Point. Throughout his time on the ice and in the classroom, he learned valued lessons of discipline and planning. Post graduate, Daniel commissioned into the Army as a Second Lieutenant, eventually reaching the rank of Captain after 5 years of service. During his first deployment, he recognized the impact of his soldiers’ poor financial decisions when it came to managing combat pay.
